Reese Burns fully expected to be the heir to the family business - eventually.
But when his father, Dan, died a few years ago, the now 26-year-old’s plans to assume the helm of Burns Bulk Food, “eventually” turned into “suddenly.” The transition came with the expected challenges involved in taking over a business - but also the challenges of navigating inter-generational family dynamics, since Reese’s grand-parents (and former owners of the historic store) helped their grand-son steer that transition.
Reese tells us how he’s meeting the challenges of this transition, staying true to the family legacy, but also putting his own stamp on the historic store.
The You Evolution is a production of Wards Lawyers.

This show has always been about open, revealing conversation that deals with life transitions. And this episode delivers, doubly so!
Guest Lily Mckay conveys a maturity beyond her teenage years, discussing how she feels, what she’s learning about herself, as she prepares for that Big Leap (Yes, capital letters, there) from high school to post-secondary in a few weeks.
And host Lisa Greci guides the conversation with care and empathy and wisdom, drawing on her training as a clinical counsellor, along with her special relationship with Lily - as her mom. So, we also hear about Lisa’s life transition, here.

How does that saying ‘bout ‘what’s impossible to avoid’ go again? Oh, right: Taxes and Death. (We decided to put it in that order, because, well, that makes more chronological sense, right?). But we can also add this to that list of life’s unavoidables: birthdays. And some are, let’s be honest, more significant than others. They can represent an end, a beginning, a new phase – a life transition. Successful singer-songwriter Stella Panacci recently experienced this when she turned 50. And she embraced it. She shares her positive and uplifting story of finding comfort and peace – (while moving on from past challenges) - because of this milestone birthday and what it represents to her as a person, a woman and a musician.
Music for this episode graciously supplied by...Stella Panacci!

It’s ironic that a deep-thinking, reflective songwriter - one with multiple awards – says he always struggled to discuss his true feelings. And Simon Ward admits it caused him, and others in his life, a lot of pain. But Simon says he’s now in a better place, able to talk openly about what’s really on his mind, including those moments of anxiety, despair and torment. He sits down with Lisa to discuss his departure as lead singer of the Strumbellas - the internationally -acclaimed band he co-founded in his hometown of Lindsay - and that transition’s impact on where he is now, emotionally. He’ll also share how his journey to solo musician is bringing him solace and happiness - following a lot of (continuing) personal work.
Music for this special episode is from “Soup” - Simon’s new musical project. (Thanks, Simon!).

So, here’s a life transition virtually everyone in Kawartha Lakes experienced recently – suddenly having to live without electricity - thanks to a historic ice storm. For some, it was a few hours. For others, it was several days or weeks. But for anyone whose days got darker and earlier, it required shifting gears – and we’re not just talking about finding ways to charge that cell phone or keep that food from spoiling.
Clinical counsellor Lisa Greci speaks with Jacqueline and Ted Hill, a rural Lindsay couple who share how they weathered – practically, emotionally and psychologically - this transition to a hydro-less life.
Theme music for The You Evolution comes to us from Lindsay’s own, Warren Frank
